Podcast Rec. - Sept. 22, 2020

Podcast Rec - The Bible for Normal People podcast: “Where Did the New Testament Come From" with Craig Allert (Released April 9, 2018)

“For them, using the word scripture meant ‘religiously authoritative literature.’ For them, this was literature that was Christian, and it was functioning in the Church in an authoritative manner...And it wasn’t until really the 4th century, and really the latter part of the 4th century, that this term canon, which means, in reference to literature, a closed or limited list or group of writings, it’s not until the 4th century that that word starts to be used by Christians to refer to a closed kind of Bible.”

In this episode of The Bible for Normal People, Pete Enns and Jared Byas spoke with Craig Allert. Craig Allert shared the history of the compilation of the canon. The conversation was intriguing. Thank you to my friend Greg for recommending this episode to me.
